Cavendish is pleased to announce that it has advised on the sale of family-run wines and spirits merchant, Venus, to the UK’s leading wholesaler, Booker, which is part of the Tesco Group.
This successful transaction underscores Cavendish’s deep expertise and track record in the wine and alcohol sector. Last year, the Cavendish Consumer team also advised on the sale of Wine-Searcher to Flaviar Inc. and facilitated the merger of Goedhuis & Co with Waddesdon Wine.
Booker, known as the top wholesaler in the UK and a crucial supplier to catering and hospitality businesses, has shown significant growth in on-trade customers in recent years. Venus, recognized as one of the fastest-growing on-trade suppliers, is highly respected in the industry for its extensive range of beers, wines, soft drinks, and an impressive selection of over 2,000 spirits.
The acquisition enhances Booker’s existing on-trade capabilities and extends Venus’ product offerings to a wider customer base across the UK. This alignment with Tesco’s strategy to offer a more premium selection in Beer, Wines, and Spirits will see Venus continue to operate under its brand, with Venus employees joining the Booker team.
The deal, transacted at an attractive valuation for shareholders, highlights the strategic fit between Venus and Booker, culturally and operationally.
Henry Wells, Head of Consumer at Cavendish, commented:
“Congratulations to both Venus and Booker on this successful transaction. Venus will be an excellent addition to the Booker family, and we are confident that the Venus business will continue to thrive under Booker’s ownership.”
